The Zion rave scenes were actually filmed in an old aircraft hangar at the former Alameda Naval Air Station in Alameda, California, just across from Oakland. Hundreds of local Construction and Art Department crew spent many weeks building this massive set.

Some of the shots, of course, were augmented with matte paintings and visual effects.
