STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE |
|
Presidio of San Francisco (GGNRA / Presidio Trust), San Francisco: Regarding Starfleet Academy being located in the Presidio, the following paragraph was written on www.trekweb.com by Michael Matassino, Restoration Supervisor at Robert Wise Productions for the new DVD: "We based our final San Francisco shots on production memos and storyboards which suggest that the Starfleet facilities extend to both sides of the bridge with a pneumatic tube system that serves as transportation back and forth. Star Trek IV and Star Trek VI clearly establish Starfleet Command and the Federation Council on the Marin county side, while other shows establish that Starfleet Academy occupies the Presidio. This seemed to make sense, so we postulated that a single skytram station, serving the entire facility, was also located on the San Francisco side, and that Admiral Kirk would tube across the bay for his meeting with Admiral Nogura. Proceeding with this theory allowed us to follow the original storyboards for TMP while also remaining consistent with what was established and shown later. This is representative of the kind of detail with which Mr. Wise and the rest of our team approached the Director's Edition. Nothing was done capriciously or impetuously." |
