MORE TALES OF THE CITY

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
Filming Locations —

Oakland, Alameda County: No principal photography was done in Oakland, but the backdrop of one of the apartment sets was somehow the Oakland skyline instead of San Francisco.

City and County of San Francisco: Most of the San Francisco scenes were faked in Montreal, Canada, but exteriors and a few interiors were done in the City: Macondray Lane (1801 Taylor Street at Green), Brocklebank Apartments (1000 Mason Street), Pier 29, Union Square, Palace of the Legion of Honor, Palace of Fine Arts, and Grace Cathedral (Nob Hill).

This scene was filmed in Montreal on the Barbary Lane sets, but the backdrop of Brian Hawkins
(Whip Hubley instead of Paul Gross)'s apartment appears to be the Oakland skyline instead of San Francisco!

The beautiful Barbary Lane set was shipped from Los Angeles to Montreal for shooting. Macondray Lane (near Taylor & Green Streets) is the real-life inspiration for this area.

This scene in which Beauchamp died marks the second film released within a year in which a main character dies in the Broadway Tunnel. The other was What Dreams May Come.
