Filming Locations —

•	San Rafael, Marin County: Just like THX-1138, the same corridors of the Marin County Civic Center were also used for this movie. The Civic Center was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (1869-1959) and is located at 3501 Civic Center Drive, between North San Pedro Road and Avenue of the Flags.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Filming Locations —

•	Barstow, San Bernardino County.

•	Inglewood, Los Angeles County: The Forum.

•	Pomona, Los Angeles County: The exterior of Vincent's apartment was filmed at the CLA Building (Classrooms, Laboratories, and Administration) at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

The Marin County Civic Center, located next to Highway 101 in the Santa Venetia section of San Rafael, was designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

He began this, his 770th project, in 1957, but died two years later. His work was continued by architects William Wesley Peters and Aaron Green, and became the only government buildings designed by Wright to be completed.

Besides the main Civic Center buildings, Wright also designed the neighboring lagoon and fairgrounds. The administration building was finished in 1962 and the Hall of Justice in 1970.

Frank Lloyd Wright originally wanted there to be no ceiling to the Civic Center, so that the inside
was exposed to the elements, but he later decided to have this glass ceiling instead.

Ethan Hawke's character is looking up to that spaceship blasting off from the Gattaca spaceport.
Notice the letters in that title word — GTCA — guanine, thymine, cytosine, and adenine,
the components of DNA. This title replaced the original working title The Eighth Day.

Looking north from the Civic Center roof. The building on the hill in the back left is now owned by Autodesk. The distant hills behind that are part of Big Rock Ridge which overlooks Marinwood, Lucas Valley, and Skywalker Ranch.

The center dome contains the public library.
