Moses Lake, Grant County: The Grant County Airport was definitely a filming location, but I don't know for which scenes. It was probably either Bruce Willis waving the torches, part of the snowmobile chase, or the take-off of the 747 airplane. Winter 1989 was warmer than usual, so the crew had to chase snow across several states. The crew was very frustrated when a nice layer of snow near Spokane, WA, melted overnight right before their shoot. They tried trucking down snow from Canada, but it turned into ice along the way. They were eventually able to get the shots that they needed.

Although most of the airport interior was filmed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), most of the exteriors were filmed at Stapleton Airport, Denver, CO. In 1995, this airport was forced to close down for the newly completed Denver International Aiport (DIA) which has been considered a disastrous failure. The old Stapleton site is now being redeveloped.

The interiors of the church were built on a stage in Century City, Southern California, but all of the exteriors were shot in the small town of Highland Lake, north of Denver off Highway 25 in Weld County. The fictional name of the church is Hidey Lake Community Church in the dialogue, but the entrance sign refers to it as the future location of the Highland Lake Day Care Center.

This whole sequence, beginning with Bruce Willis climbing up the ladder, was shot at many locations, including Granada Hills (Los Angeles County, CA), Century City (Los Angeles County, CA), Mojave Desert (San Bernardino County, CA), Alpena (Alpena County, MI), and Sault Ste. Marie (Chippewa County, MI). The pictures shown above were shot at [1] Santa Rosa Air Center, Santa Rosa, CA (with a visual-effects airplane model superimposed); [2] somewhere near Lake Tahoe, CA; and [3] and [4] Stapleton Airport, Denver, CO. The first picture, though, might be San Francisco International Airport (SFO) instead.

This scene was shot in the neighborhood surrounding the church in Highland Lake.

Most of the snowmobile chase was done in Highland Lake, though some of it might have been done elsewhere.
