From Out of the River Mist, by C. Raymond Clar, 1973, pages 84-85 "At this time, 1920-21, this area itself was lightly touched by the magic of Hollywood... Then about a year later a much bigger visitation from Hollywood descended upon Vacation Beach, downriver about three miles from town. The novel The Money Master by Sir Gilbert Parker was being produced under the the movie title The Wise Fool. James Kirkwood was the star. He was an authentic matinee idol of the era, and he acted the haughty role off-stage as well as before the camera. Many of the townspeople were hired as extras to populate the French Canadian villa fabricated on Vacation Beach. The grand finale was the evening burning of the villa. Many of us watched this performance from across the river. The final production was a better than average movie of the time." (Thank you to Jean Hewlett, North Bay Cooperative Library System)
